This is actually not bad. I will re-check it before I ask my date for a drink.

Tired of the same old wine, beer or mixed drink staples at your favorite watering hole? Pour out those stale beverage choices and grab hold of the most fitting refresher for your zodiac sign. Remember to drink responsibly and in moderation for best results!

Aries (March 21 – April 19) Aries will try the latest concoction before you can say Captain Morgan and club soda. Ask the bartender what’s new and the Ram will be sure to give it a go. Male or female, Aries tends to like manly drinks like Jack and Coke or scotch on the rocks. The bold ladies of ‘Sex and the City,’ though — two of whom are Aries in real life — always favored the vodka, Cointreau and cranberry juice of the cosmopolitan.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20) Just a beer, please, and a classic brand like Budweiser, Miller or Sam Adams is best for the habit-prone Bull. Good European beer marketed in America, like Beck’s or Heineken, will also satisfy. Ballpark beer is even better — because it comes with a hot dog! For more refined Taurean moods, drinks with sweetness, like a fruity daiquiri, or with a touch of dairy, such as a pina colada, pink lady or mudslide, will quench this sign’s thirst.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) The talk is as important as the drink at the places Gemini frequents. No lonely dive bars for the Twin — he or she needs social and mental stimulation. Add a cool, refreshing beverage like a white wine spritzer (wine and club soda over ice) or a melon martini and all will be well in Gemini’s world. Summer wine tastings and drink sampler nights appeal to the Twin’s curiosity as well. Just make sure he or she has a designated driver for the ride home.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Cancer will enjoy drinks that represent the best local produce of a region. Sangria is a particular summer delight, pairing wine with citrus and spice. Other Crab favorites include the exotic Cuban mojito, and Mexican tequila drinks such as a Texas tea or a classic margarita.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) Leo and cocktails go together like Hugh Hefner and women. Sunny drinks such as the lemon drop martini or the Leo Special (gin, Cointreau, lime juice, Pernod and crème de menthe) made with premium brand liquor will appeal. A Cadillac margarita made with Grand Marnier in a stylish glass will also make your Lion purr. For Leo’s birthday, consider a book on how to prepare classic cocktails in his or her home bar.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) Specialty wines and micro-brewed beers may appeal to Virgo’s love of craft. Even better, consider taking your Virgin on a tour of a winery or microbrewery complete with time for taste testing. Winding down from work will generally be Virgo’s reason for drinking — make sure he or she doesn’t unwind too far! Cocktails with green garnishes or themes such as mint juleps, bullfrogs, Midori sours and grasshoppers may pique your Virgin’s curiosity and love of all things earthy.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) Drinks served in fine glassware will go a long way to please Libra. Almost more than the taste, Libra loves the visual and aesthetic experience of the cocktail. Odds are even a beer will be more appealing to the sign of the Scales when served in an attractive bottle or glass. Librans also enjoy the elegance of champagne, consumed in romantic settings and combined with the sweetness of fruit, as in the classic mimosa. No slamming your fist on the bar, please — Libra likes it serene.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) The darker the better for reclusive Scorpio. This applies to a bar’s ambience as well as to the liquor itself — dimly lit, out of the way bars, and drinks using bourbon, scotch, dark wines and dark rum enhance the Scorpion’s tendency to go within. Needless to say, summer’s not typically the Scorpion’s favorite season, but refreshing savory drinks like the bloody Mary or rum drinks like the Bahama mama may make relaxing by the pool or lounging in the hammock more enjoyable.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) Sagittarius is usually game for something really out there — with a kick — like a whiskey punch, a Long Island Iced Tea or a Hurricane (rum, lime juice, passion fruit, orange juice, Angostura bitters). The Archer also loves the flair of international drinks such as the popular Brazilian Caipirinha (Cachaça liquor, sugar, crushed limes, ice), and the you-could-swim-in-it size of a fishbowl margarita. Along with Pisces, Sagittarius is the sign most prone to overdoing it, so keep that designated driver or taxi company phone number handy.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) Capricorn likes cocktails just like they are — classic and on the dry side. Gin and tonic, standard martinis (prepared with gin, please, not vodka) and drinks without frills or fruit garnishes make Cappy happy. Like Leo, Capricorn prefers high-end liquors that speak to his or her good taste. Try a classic after-dinner ritual like dry port with cheese to please your Mountain Goat. Traditional bars in the most respected parts of town are best.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) Admit it, Aquarius. In college or your younger years, you probably were voted “Most Likely to Consume Jello Shots.” Your taste still tends toward the quirky, including kamikaze shooters or trendy drinks such as the pomtini (vodka, lime, grapefruit and pomegranate juices), though you do enjoy the effervescence of a good champagne. Coffee drinks such as Keoki coffee (brandy, Kahlua, coffee) offer the alertness you crave. You most enjoy sharing drinks with a group of good friends.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20) Pisces picks up subtle flavors better than anyone, and will especially enjoy wine tasting or sampling cocktails by a lake or body of water. Favorite summer drinks of the Fish may include fish house punch (rum, Cognac, lemon juice, peach brandy) or a glass of top-notch dessert wine. Pisces loves the otherworldliness induced by a round of cocktails, yet may need to monitor his or her drinking more than other signs. It couldn’t hurt to rent the Tom Cruise movie ‘Cocktail’ for more on the pros and cons of consuming alcoholic drinks.

OK, here’s the feedback from my systematic analysis: I tried the Grasshopper the other day. It was wonderful for about 5 sips, and then it all seemed to clot in the back of my throat, lol. OK, so that one’s a thumbs down. Next I shall report on the Midori Sour. Salute!

Virgo – “Cocktails with green garnishes or themes such as mint juleps, bullfrogs, Midori sours and grasshoppers may pique your Virgin’s curiosity and love of all things earthy.” Mm-Mmm! The next time I’m in a bar I’m gonna try both a Midori Sour and a Grasshopper. Thanks for the suggestions, Hieronimuss – I’ll letcha know which one wins.
