Your 2nd house of finances and values is ruled by Mercury because the cusp falls into the sign of Gemini. We look to where your Mercury falls and it’s with the Sun in Sagittarius in the 7th house of partnerships and committed relationships, also ruling marriage and even known enemies (although I’d agree it sounds like a contradiction) The idea being, that the 7th rules Contracts, and when you write a contract with someone you know, it may even turn problematic for you.
Now, as your Mercury suggests, it does not work altogether to your ultimate benefit, because it is in the sign of it’s “Detriment” (not Fall) but the idea may be the same pretty much in all practicality.
It’s rather common that all of us have some of this in our natal charts, so it’s not unusual for us to have to deal with planets that fall either in the sign of Fall or Detriment as the ancients assigned them to be when they oppose the more optimum place.
So no need to fret or worry about this, but as you mentioned, the perspective then, may be more skewed one way or another, less towards being practical perhaps, saving for a “rainy day”, as Mercury rules your 2nd, perhaps you’ve not thought in the past that rainy days can be quite stormy, and with Mercury in Sagittarius, a lovely sign btw, IMO, tending to think “large” rather then contained. When it comes to money and practical things, as the 2nd house denotes, one wants to be more smaller contained and concerned then thinking “larger”.
The sign of Sagittarius, as noted is a sign that likes the “larger” not the smaller or contained, as Jupiter a very large planet Rules this sign as it’s lord.
And for sure, most SAG people hate smallness or small mindedness.
I find nothing wrong with that, as I too dislilke small mindedness. But I also can understand where smaller may be better in some areas of our lives, more contained perhaps. http://www.astro.com/mtp/mtp64_e.htm
When a planet is in Detriment, as the link shows that means the sign of it’s Ruler is the Opposite Polarity or sign, and in this case, Gemini (seen in the link) It’s a matter back to what we were born to live and experience all for personal growth.
But again, look to the houses where Mercury for you may reign, such as the 2nd of finances, the 1st of self or personality and the 5th of children and recreation or gambling. Do you like to gamble for instance? These are some areas you should consider when considering Mercury in Sagittarius, and where Mercury as lord falls into the natal chart houses.
mercury rules your Ascendant and 4th house Equal house system. I dont' mercury functioning badly or afflicted as it’s in a fire grand trine
Really it’s upto to you which house system, but with a little research, just see which planets fall in which house that makes sense for you. try moon in houses
all about moons
For some reason I like Mercury in Sagittarius.I like Mercury and Jupiter together. They can see the details AND the big picture. It makes for a way of thinking that has a wide range,a lot of room for different perspectives. They are not set in their ways of thinking, they are open. They are not fixed, they are not dogmatic, they are not over emotional—their logic does not go in a straight line. They are philosophers. They tend to exaggerate. They can tell some tall tales. My sister has this——she can ramble on and on and go off in different directions, she can see both sides to a story—she just is open to new ideas. It really lightens up her Capricorn sun.
