What is the significance of the planet Mercury? In my chart it’s in the 8th House in Virgo. How would you describe this influence?

With the Mercury in the 8th house, you can always reinvent yourself. It reminds you to take your power seriously and exercise control, which may not come as your natural behavior, but which can’t be neglected. Your expertise is in details, but the approach to sex may be somewhat too mentally flavored.

Mercury is the planet of mental processing, mind and communication. It is also your voice and has to do with the written or spoken word-letters, telephones, conversation, ideas, books, the media…. Depending upon its position in the horoscope, Mercury is lies or truth, open or secretive, provocative or non-confrontational. Mercury can signify humor and magic. It rules the hands – and the quickness of the hand deceives the eye – so Mercury can be a thief as well as a magician. Mercury represents local travel or short journeys, and the means of transport, cars, buses, and bicycles.

As Mercury moves, it doesn’t rotate around it’s axis, so one side is “hot”, turned to the sun, the other side is cold and turned away from the sun. The light, curious and quick-minded side is Gemini, the dark, analytical, mysterious, philosophical, and sometimes devious side is Virgo.

Just wanted to mention the body parts associated with Mercury. Shoulders, arms, hands and even lungs are pretty obvious, but if you have any afflictions to Mercury, you should also make sure your cervical spine, intestines and thyroid gland are well nourished and protected, since they are associated with Mercury as well.

Mercury is the prince in astrology, sexless and neutral and is a cold and moist planet. Being a neutral planet it changes according to its placement in a sign and house, and that is why it is said to have a “mercurial” nature. Because it is nearest to the Sun it is restless, which also makes it quick-changing, fickle, and often retrograde. Mercury sometimes precedes the Sun and sometimes follows it. It is always within 27 degree distance from the sun from astrological point of view. Image Alt Text

Mercury can be seen in the morning and evening as a shining star and sometimes even during the day because of its power of radiation. Mercury is the smallest planet of our solar system. Mercury takes about a month to travel a sign. Image Alt Text
